Telford GameFor those of you that have read Pauls report on the Senior team v Telford, and thought 'here we go again', all I can say is that the score line does not really give a good account of the game. the lads that played, played their hearts out and did them selves and the club proud.
The Tuesday night before a game, we go through our team list checking who will be there and who won't. Now for the rant - we should have been in Telford with 18 players, through Saturday and Sunday morning we lost 5 players, this is not including the 1 who is injured and the 1 who has just come out of hospital. If Chris can turn up, even though his partner has just had a baby, surely the rest of you could have done.
Every year we sit in the senior changing room listening to the lads go on about lack of commitment, fed up of losing, fed up of not having enough players etc., and every year we start the season with enough players, and then over a short period of time we see them start to drop off, because we are losing games. This season has seen the team get off to a really good start, and it could continue. I know that people have lives outside hockey, and sometimes it can't be helped that games have to be missed - but at what point do you say to your selves "I have made a commitment to this team, I am part of this team and I can play my part" Those of you that did not play yesterday, for what ever reason you gave, you let your team mates down! Telford Titans are practically an EPL side, so we knew the game was going to be hard anyway, but to not turn up and with lame a**** excuses it's time that you perhaps took stock of what this team actually means to you. So we loose Whitley flu and gain Telford tummy?We know we will never be Elite league standard, but that does not mean that we can't go out there and give it our all, and with the new set up in the league we have as good a chance as the rest of the teams in our division of promotion to Div 1 - as long as everyone plays their part! The 9 players + 2 goalies that we took, played their hearts out - at times you could see that their heads where going down, and as good a coaches as Iain and Andy are at times you could see it was hard at times for them to keep the teams spirts up. Jonny and Sam both did well to keep the score down as low as it was, and even though we were short on players, everyone played their part. Unfortunately, the ref didn't help much - but thats another tale.
For those of you didn't turn up - you will still be charged for your place on the coach, we all agreed that we would cover the cost and I will not cover the cost myself. So make sure you bring your money with you on Tuesday.
Sundays game v Grimsby, will be open to a lot of school children and their parents that we are hoping to persuade to give ice hockey a go, so please make sure that you will all be able to play, and tip up on Tuesday for training.
