U16 BILLINGHAM V BRADFORDBILLINGHAM 5 BRADFORD 3
Bradford went to Billingham, currently second in the table, with 2 seasoned forwards and 1 of our only 4 d men in the squad short. The squad was bolstered by Mr Chapman, Mr Eastwood, Mr Marrow Jnr. and Mr Dacres, hot from the U14’s game played prior to our match. Well done lads and thanks for the sterling effort you put in, it was a hard physical match and you held your own.
Well the clocks went back this weekend, unfortunately for us Coach Fletcher got mixed up and moved his calendar backward a day! Thanks Mr Dacres senior for stepping in at the last minute, hope you got those new boxers you were after at Meadow Hall Fletch.
Right from the start it was clear Leigh was a marked man, every time he got near the puck he was jostled or tripped. After one such event, 4 mins into the game put Bradford on the power play. That was all that was needed for a unassisted goal from Leigh. Bradford were 1-0 up.
10 mins into the game and Billingham were serving their 4th penalty of the game, this time for tripping. A beautifully placed pass by Leigh from the goal side back to the blue line was all it took for a sweet slap shot into the bottom corner of the goal by Captain Butler. 10 mins in and Bradford were 2-0 up and thanks to some excellent goal tending by Mr Leeming that’s how it stayed till the end of the first period.
Period 2. Billingham came back with a vengeance and good plain hard work, fore checking and general good play saw them net three unanswered goals.
Bradford came out for the third period 3-2 down but ready to do battle for the last period of their last game of the season.
Bradford battled hard as all the players gave everything they had. Every puck was chased down hard, Billingham were fore checked to cut down their shooting chances, however a 3 man passing sequence saw the Bradford defence split and Billingham slotted home another. 4-2 down but Bradford never gave up and 3 mins later Chris Armo got his just deserves with a nice short handed goal from an assist by Leigh.
4-3 to Billingham, Bradford firing on all cylinders 6 mins to go. Not to be, 1 ½ mins later and Billingham with only 10 seconds left on the power play managed to net another.
Final score 5-3 to Billingham.
A good effort by every player on the bench and a few seasons best performances by one or two players. Well-done lads and lass.
