U18'S SHEFFIELD V BULLDOGS ( match report added)SHEFFIELD 4 BRADFORD 11 
First game of the season, away at local rivals Sheffield. Coach Hanson is away sprawled on some Spanish beach playing with his castanets. Step up to the ocky Manchester defector Danny Berry to lead the Bradford squad. Last time Mr Berry took charge of this team they were U14 and won the Grimsby tournament.
It seemed to be a bad start; Jordan and Ryan were to arrive just before face off, Hannah, on the way back from GB ladies matches in Europe, was stranded on a broken coach.
Thanks to a delay to the start of the game and some deft Taxi work by Mr Nelson saw Bradford starting the game with only Hannah 10 mins away.
The puck was dropped and Sheffield seemed to have good shape and form, within 34 seconds they went 1 up with a Goal and assist by the Batson twins.
It took Bradford a while to settle into their first game but when Sheffield took their first penalty Stevo took advantage of a goalmouth scramble and netted Bradford’s first at 3:38 making the score 1-1.
At 4:35 the other Batson twin scored his first unassisted goal to put Sheffield 2-1 up.
It took nearly a further 6 minutes till Jordan scored his first goal assisted by Ben Flan.
The scores were level at 2-2.
At 19 minutes into the first period Mr Nelson took his second penalty of the game for elbowing and the first Batson scorer took advantage for Sheffield, scored his second of the game and Bradford went into the first break 3-2 down.
A good dose of strong coaching and the infusion of belief during that break saw Bradford return to the ice ready and willing.
Ms Glenn assisted by that Ben Flan again showed why she commands such a high salary and slotted home her first goal 43 seconds into the second period. The scores were now level at 3 apiece. Less than 2 minutes later saw Jordan “dance” through the Sheffield defence to score his second goal and put Bradford ahead at 3-4.
80 seconds later and Mr Ashington did a repeat performance stepping round the defence and beating the goalie. Bradford were now leading 3-5.
24 seconds later Sheffield answered with a goal from Webb assisted by, that Batson Kid again. The score was now 4-5 to Bradford.
It took nearly 4 more minutes before Jordan scored his next goal, a solo breakaway leaving the goalie beaten and Jordan with 4 goals under his belt.
About 4 minutes later again and Hannah hooked up with Ashington to score her second goal of the game. It then took another 4 minutes till Jordan scored Bradford’s last of the period and we went to the second break 4-8 up.
The last period began and once again 4 minutes in, Bradford’s Ed Wardle scored his first goal of the season giving us a 4-9 lead. However don’t believe it was a walk over for Bradford, the amount of silly penalties we collected meant that for 32 mins of the 60 minute game Bradford were at least 1 man down and unable to rotate the lines as originally envisaged.
At 46 minutes into the game Ms Glenn accepted a pass from Mr Ashington and made her final goal of the game and her first hat trick of the season. Ten more minutes were to pass before Jordan scored the last goal of the game; his sixth of the game and the final score was 4-11 to Bradford.
A good first game result for Bradford, however it took a lot of hard defensive work and good goal keeping to keep out a much stronger than the score line suggests Sheffield. Far too many silly penalties that would have been expected at an U14’s game. A good team performance all round considering the abysmal training attendance prior to the start of the season.
